Restorative Dentistry

Restorative dentistry is replacing missing or damaged teeth. Missing or damaged teeth can be caused by many reasons, such as cavities, gum disease, trauma and genetic conditions. At Tricoast Dental, our goal is to help you get your dream smile while preventing future oral health issues. There are many options to repair and restore decayed, damaged or missing teeth. Your dentist will decide what are the best options for you depending on the number of missing or decayed teeth you have, the size of the cavity, and your medical and dental history. These options include:
  • Fillings
  • Crowns
  • Bridges
  • Partial dentures
  • Complete dentures
  • Implants

Cavities are permanently damaged areas of teeth that develop into holes in your teeth. In order to prevent further tooth decay, your dentist will remove the decayed tooth structure and fill the cavity with composite resin. At Tricoast Dental, our dentists fill those areas with the highest quality tooth-colored composite resin to ensure integrity of that tooth while making sure your smile looks natural and bright.

Crowns and bridges

When a tooth is weak, damaged or cosmetically flawed, your dentist might recommend a crown for that tooth. A crown is a “cap” that covers a tooth that can be made of different materials such as porcelain, ceramic, zirconia, metal alloys, composite resin or a combination of materials. Each crown is custom-made for your tooth to ensure the crown fits perfectly to your bite and the rest of your teeth. Depending on the gum tissue around that tooth and the tooth’s location and function, your dentist will determine what is the best material for that crown.

A missing tooth can cause bone loss, drifting of teeth and other problems. Your dentist might recommend a bridge to replace those missing teeth. A bridge is a fixed, meaning non-removable, solution to restore missing teeth. The adjacent teeth neighboring the empty space are prepared for crowns and are connected by one or more “pontics” (prosthetic teeth) that replaces the missing spaces. Then the bridge is cemented to your teeth to replace that missing space and to restore your smile.
