Sometimes, a simple examination isn’t enough to diagnose certain dental problems. This is when digital x-rays and imaging are necessary. Digital x-rays allow us to take an image of your teeth so we can have a closer look at them and the surrounding structures.
Why Do I Need an X-Ray?
There are various dental issues that can only be detected on an x-ray. These include:
- Cavities between the teeth
- Tumors (both benign and malignant)
- Infections of the bone
- Impacted wisdom teeth
- Bone loss
- Hidden dental decay
- Tartar buildup
Without x-rays, we can’t provide the level of care you deserve. For example, a cavity going unnoticed may turn into a serious infection simply because we weren’t able to locate and treat it early. The last thing you want is a root canal or extraction for a tooth that could have been fixed with a simple filling.
DIGITAL X-RAYS VS REGULAR X-RAYS
With the use of digital x-rays, we’re able to ensure a level of accuracy much higher than that of a traditional x-ray. Digital x-rays also expose patients to about 80% less radiation. Although the levels of radiation from a traditional x-ray are generally considered safe, less is always better. Another benefit of getting a digital x-ray is the comfort. Our new technology also makes the process much more comfortable and quick with no uncomfortable films and fast image capture. Once we take the images, they load onto the computer within seconds.
Along with your x-rays, we will also perform a thorough visual inspection of your neck, head, oral cavity, and the temporomandibular joint. With the combination of the visual exam and the digital x-ray and imaging, we will diagnose and treat any dental problems you have.
